SALALAH - OMAN

Whilst we can’t rave about the excursion we did, we were very impressed by Salalah, a relatively new City that really showed.

Everywhere you looked there are construction sites, new Hotel resorts, commercial shopping centres and residential buildings.

Our tour took us over an hours drive North to see a tomb and an excavation centre which I won’t elaborate on, but the City is very clean and quite lush for a desert area. There are miles and miles of lights with lace  trimmings and the nature strips, roundabouts are beautifully manicured lawns and gardens.

Now get this, about 100,000 residents, there is no income tax, no unemployment, no crime, free hospital and medical expenses, free education. Sounds like heaven doesn’t it.

They have miles of beautiful beaches, no-one swims there as they don’t enjoy swimming.

It is known as the perfume capital of Arabia, they produce and sell lots of Frankincense.

We did see the Imperial Palace, where the prince has very large farms that produce most of the fruit and vegetables for the City. There are many fruit stalls around Salalah.

We also drove by the prison and when asked who was imprisoned there, our guide informed us that they have mostly committed traffic offenses, maybe a family dispute but no criminals, no murderers or robbers. Is that something? The climate is similar to home not too hot but quite high humidity.

It was a very nice visit and we were suitably impressed.

ON THE WAY TO MUSCAT Nov 22nd

We are currently on the way to Muscat where we will dock tomorrow morning, we've had a lovely day today. The sea is like glass and we have had a beautiful lunch on the pool deck all conveniently cooked by the officers of the ship including the Captain.

Shortly we will be off to Trivia where a group of Aussies are starting to get our act into gear.

Tonight we have a cocktail party for Seven Seas Society guests or those passengers who have sailed more than 21 days with Regent. We will have done about 115 by the time this cruise finishes so are Gold Members Hmmmmmm.

When you reach Platinum you get your laundry done for free. Tonight we go to Prime 7, the steakhouse restaurant where we will probably eat too much. Pants getting tighter!!!!!!!

  1. Salalah-Oman sounds great. Wish we were there. You did not tell us what happens to the real criminals, do they just get topped; most likely too scared to move. Hot here today, humidity high. L
