Kalmar -Sweden

Kalmar 2/8/14
Yesterday was a day at sea and we joined the golf putting comp, a very windy day but somehow I got the lowest score and won! Wow, won myself a Seaborn pen, well done Gloria.
What a beautiful entry into Kalmar. The imposing brick Kalmar castle with verdigris copper roofs welcomes you from its position on Kalmar which is surrounded by water.  We had to tender, which took a good 15 mins but a beautiful day so wasn't hard to take.

Once on shore we strolled down to the City Park where we got a close up view of the Castle. Very impressive up close, didn't go into the Castle as was quite a walk and Tony still not 100% fit. The gardens close by and the trees, one  like an umbrella tree, you literally stood underneath were lovely.
We followed the old City wall with shops under the entrance and then wound our way through small charming alleys filled with restaurants , shops and 17th century houses, known as Tripp,Trapp and Trull.
The Nostra water tower was huge and the the Cathedral, also 17th century and the largest Baroque church in Sweden.
A very pretty town with its cobbled streets and flower pots. Very enjoyable day.
